About Us

FTC is an accredited area vocational school managed by the Joplin R-VIII School District, which follows the public school calendar. The mission of FTC is to provide students of all ages with the opportunity to gain the technical skills and knowledge consistent with the needs of the local community and employers competing in a global market.

Vocational training has been available through Franklin Technology Center for over seventy years. Both full-time and part-time instruction is available for secondary and post-secondary students, as well as a complete offering of Community Education.

The open-door philosophy at Franklin Technology Center allows access to admission in programs based on aptitude, interest, abilities, and specific program entrance requirements. Recognizing that all applicants are not qualified to enter all programs, admission does not guarantee acceptance to specific programs of courses.

Franklin Technology Center began its secondary training in vocational education in 1937 with only two programs. In 1965, the current facility at 2020 Iowa was constructed, and a new addition was built in 1979 to double the size of the existing structure. It provides 29 vocational programs for secondary and post-secondary students, plus an evening adult and continuing education program. In May 1995, Franklin Technology Center once again expanded by opening its doors on the Missouri Southern State Campus. This facility houses the Health Science and other technical programs. In 2003, Missouri Southern State College became Missouri Southern State University.

Franklin Technology Center is accredited by the North Central Commision on Accreditation and School Improvement. Individual programs are accredited by a variety of accreditation agencies. Please check with the coordinator of the program for any specific information on accreditation.
